Ontario has a "Fight the Bite" campaign of public education, mosquito and bird monitoring, and mosquito "control". Ontario is leaving decisions as to WNV strategies up to individual Health Units.

Generally, the larvicide methoprene is to be used in sewer catch-basins and sewage lagoons, and Bti will be used in open water. Until March, Bti could be used anywhere, but then the province changed the rules. As well, the former requirement to measure storm sewer outfalls for methoprene was downgraded to a recommendation.

Malathion is being suggested as the adulticide of choice. However, pyrethroid insecticides have recently been approved by the PMRA, so these may also be used.
